The University Gallery presents Between Silver Light & Orange Shadow

The University Gallery presents Between Silver Light and Orange Shadow, an exhibition of paintings by New York artist Elena Sisto. The artist explores psychological underpinnings of young women without revealing their thoughts. Sisto is a painter’s painter, with an affinity for artists such as Mondrian, De Chirico, Giacometti, Morandi and Guston.

Holding an impressive track record of important solo and group exhibitions, numerous residencies, workshops and grants including two from the NEA, Sisto is an acclaimed New York artist with studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, Brown University and the New York Studio School. She has been a visiting artist at Yale, Brandeis, Bard, Bates, Colby, Parsons, Hampshire, Smith, Wesleyan and many other prestigious schools.

Sisto currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She has long worked with art students, and her most recent paintings actually look at women who are in the process of becoming artists. The coming of age timeframe affects everyone; an artist examining art-making is classic and real, and the characters in these works reflect that pure truth. Without clearly expressing emotion, they portray focus and vulnerability.

Between Silver Light and Orange Shadow travels to the Freedom Tower Art Gallery of Miami-Dade College in Miami, Florida and to Lori Bookstein Gallery in the Chelsea Gallery District of New York.

Parking Information: Daytime parking is available in reserved spaces between Fine Arts Building C (FAC) and Inner Road. From SW 13th Street, enter campus on Museum Drive. Turn Right on Newell Drive, then Right on Inner Road. Turn left into parking lot behind FAC; the first three spaces on the left are reserved for gallery use. Parking permits are issued to gallery visitors in the University Gallery.
