Call to Order
Guest Announcements Meghan Fitzgerald, Women’s Volleyball
Ms. Fitzgerald thanked the APA initiative to help promote Women’s Volleyball. For the first time, the University of Florida will host one of four 2006 NCAA Regionals, December 8-9, 2006. The fate of future Regionals held at UF will depend on how well this series is attended. Ms. Fitzgerald urged all to attend and promote UF Volleyball. Program Kyle Cavanaugh, Vice President for Human Resources
Mr. Cavanaugh commented on Mary Wise’s excellent leadership of the Volleyball program and urged all to support our team.
Mr. Cavanaugh reviewed the accomplishments of the first year as VP of Human Resources and discussed some goals for the future. Some of the initiatives covered were: Performance Management Program; Implementation of ePAF; Department of Reconciliation Training; Enhancements of Open Enrollment; Compensation Program; Implementation of HR Forum; Revision of Sexual Harassment Training; Homecoming Holiday – unique to UF; Baby Gator; Sect. 127 Plan Implementation; Retirement Special Pay Plan; UPK Implementation; Gator Jobs: New applicant tracking system; Gator Grad Care; upcoming Merit Pay – Mr. Cavanaugh’s directive. Mr. Cavanaugh also gave us an update on the progress of the upcoming move for Human Resources to the new location, the old Bell South building near downtown on University Avenue. APA President’s Report – Diane Craig
2006-07 Officers – Introduction of current officers: Diane Craig – President; Ron Lester - Past President; Allan Preston - President Elect; Christine Schoaff - Program Chair; Joy Rodgers - Publicity Chair; Diane Warfield - Membership Chair; Marijka Willis - Secretary/Treasurer
APA Summer Seminars – HR topics were well attended and received. Two sessions covered Flextime and the Non-Reappointment Process. Library West Tours – Two Walking tours of Library West were conducted by Library West staff. Both were highly requested and joyfully received. We will look at sponsoring some more tours of Library West. InsideUF – Previewed on Monday, August 28, 2006. InsideUF appears Tuesdays in The Independent Florida Alligator as a two-page centerpiece, featuring the latest news about people, places and events from all over the UF community. Shared Governance - We will wait and watch how the UF Faculty version proceeds. Lunch and Learn – Lunch and Learn is a new initiative spear headed by Allan Preston. The first lunch on October 12, will feature Dr. Danaya Wright on the topic of shared governance. Web site – Diane Craig discussed revisions and the addition of a suggestion box.
APA Task Force Reports – Committee Chairs – The Survey Committee, Internal Communications, HR Committee and Community Service committees gave brief remarks. The Survey Committee needs a new chair, contact Diane Craig if interested. Internal Communications will be forwarding to APA for review a list of recommendations to improve internal communications at UF. HR committee is looking for more members; contact the new chair, Wendy Thornton. Community Service plans to partner with UAA on providing opportunities to disadvantaged youth to attend Gator sporting events.
Old Business - Diane Warfield announced the upcoming Volleyball game and gave out tickets for free admission to the match on Sunday October 1, 2006.
New Business – The APA group discussed the possibility of offering more tours of Library West. The first Lunch and Learn will be offered on October 12, 2006 with Dr. Danaya Wright in the Reitz Union. Email allanp@ufl.edu. The next APA meeting will be held at Marston Science Library Conference Room L107.
Adjournment – Cookies and punch were served before and after the meeting.
