Call to Order—Diane Craig, President

Program: Provost Janie Fouke was scheduled to speak today, but was unable to attend. Instead Allen Preston spoke and covered a number of topics. There is still time to volunteer to serve on a University Committee. Some committees still need staff such as the Commencement, Cultural Plaza and Community Campaign committee. Serving on a committee is a great way to meet people from across the campus. Names are sent to the Faculty Senate, who choose and place volunteers on committees. Submit your first, second and third choices. A very worthwhile endeavor is to serve on the Minority Mentoring Program. Staff can act as mentors and assist new students in their life at the University.

Allen also discussed the merits of the Flex Car program. This program began as a University of Florida Fleet Management Initiative. Of the users, 70% are students. This unique program allows people ages 18 to 21 to rent a vehicle. There are some restrictions.

If you need a vehicle for a specific errand or trip, you still don't need your own car. FlexCar offers 8 low-emission vehicles on campus to choose from, including 3 hybrids. FlexCar members just pay $5.50 per hours or $55 per day for the vehicle, gas, insurance, maintenance, a reserved parking space, and 150 free miles per trip, roadside assistance and 24-hour customer service. For more information see: www.senate.ufl.edu/archives/faculty_senate/2007/January/Microsoft%20PowerPoint%20-%20UF%20Senate.pdf

Campus Cab is up and running. The service is still a pilot project and is not yet available to all departments on campus. A free taxi service is available to faculty and staff. PPD will provide point-to-point transportation on Main campus to UF facilities in Alachua County for selected segments of IFAS and the Gainesville Airport. The taxi service is available at no cost to UF faculty and staff, Monday‐Friday, 7:45 am–4:45 pm. Reservations are taken from 7:15 am–4:15 pm, at least 60 minutes before requested pick-up time. The information is available from the Physical Plant Division site.

New Business—A topic for future discussion: take a look at the Courier Service on Campus to see if it meets with service expectations or if alternatives are optional.
